WINDSOR, N.C. -- A Bertie County sheriff's deputy who spent hours working after the savage April storms has been killed along with his toddler son in a personal watercraft accident on the Cashie River. Chief Deputy Greg Atkins said Monday that 30-year-old Kenneth Cobb and 2-year-old son David were found dead in their life jackets in the water about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near Windsor. Officials say Cobb's wife was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital with a severe head injury. Atkins said Katrina Cobb was found still on the watercraft. She used a cell phone to call emergency workers about 10 p.m. Sunday to report the accident. Officials believe the watercraft must have struck an object in the water. A dozen people perished in Bertie County following the April 16 storms.
