Suspect Found Hiding In Vacant Lot, Police Say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A Winston-Salem woman is accused of robbing a Kernersville Wendy's restaurant while armed with a handgun, Kernersville police said.Police said the woman walked into the location on Highway 66 at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and left with cash.Officers began searching the area, police said, and found Portia Monet Saunders, 23, hiding in a nearby vacant lot.Saunders' clothing matched the description of the robber given by the store manager, and she was found with a gun and cash, police said.Saunders was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.She was being held in the Forsyth County Jail on $25,000 bail.
