83-Year-Old Walmart Greeter Charged With Robbery At Store

Suspect Fired Shot Into Air, Police Say

Police in Statesville have charged an 83-year-old man who worked as a greeter at Walmart with attempting to rob his own store. Police said George Plane Jr., of Mooresville, was working Sunday night when he went to his car, donned a disguise and walked back inside with a gun. Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson said Plane put the gun to a fellow employee's head and demanded money from a cash register.Anderson said Plane fired a shot in the air after leaving with the money.
 
 
Walmart Greeter Charged In Robbery
Police said a citizen followed Plane after he left the store and directed police to Plane's location, where he was arrested. He is being held at the Iredell County Jail on an $75,000 bond. He faces multiple charges, including robbery with a dangerous weapon. It could not be immediately determined Monday if he has a lawyer.Police said the stolen money was returned to the store.
