Power Outage Hits Winston-Salem

More Than 3,500 Duke Energy customers affected

Winston-Salem police responded to a report of a down power line located in the 300 block of Motor Road around 12:30a.m. According to Duke Power, it appears a transformer exploded, causing the utility pole it was mounted on to catch on fire. The utility pole eventually broke, resulting in a power outage for a significant area of the northern portion of the city.At this time, power is out at the following locations:Motor Road west of Patterson Avenue Indiana Avenue northwest from Motor Road Cherry Street north from Northpoint Boulevard Northpoint Boulevard from Indiana Avenue to Cherry Street University Parkway north from US 52Some of the intersections will have temporary stop signs and others will have officers directing traffic. Motorists are asked to please drive carefully in the affected areas or use an alternate route if possible.The number of residents affected by the power outage is estimated to be between 2500-3240. A Duke power crew is at the scene and estimated it will be several hours before the power is restored.
